M-Connection Service: A Multicast Service for Distributed Multimedia Applications
نویسندگان
چکیده
New high speed networks and the requirements of users for the support of interpersonal communication in a computerised heterogeneous environment demand for new communication services. These services have to provide support for multimedia group communication. In this paper we introduce a multicast transport service for multimedia group applications called M-Connection Service. It is a protocol independent service which provides an interface to diierent transport protocols. Apart from data transfer this service ooers functions to establish, join, leave, change properties of and terminate multicast connections. Multi-cast connections are characterised by QoS and integrity conditions. We propose distinct QoS negotiation and group management schemes suitable for multicast multimedia communication. We describe the service elements of the M-Connection Service in detail. To demonstrate the feasibility of the service its service elements are mapped onto XTP 4.0 protocol mechanisms.

Scalable and Reliable Multimedia Multipeer Communication in the M-Connection Service
New applications such as conferencing and cooperative systems operate in a group environment. Many networks have multicast capabilities, yet, a lack of transport protocols and services that ooer end-to-end group communication support can be observed. End-to-end speciic issues in this context are communication integrity and the problem of reliability versus scalability. Full reliability is requi...
متن کاملPerformance Evaluation of Connectionless Multicast Protocals for Cooperative Multimedia Applications
Cooperative multimedia applications like desktop conferencing and joint design, involving a group of distributed users, are best build upon a multicast communication service. All of the currently discussed multicast protocols are based on the assumption of a connectionless, packet switched network layer. Since such networks do not guarantee the quality of service requirements of distributed mul...
متن کاملmc-SPF: an application-level multicast service path finding protocol for multimedia applications
Much of the current multimedia application deployment relies on composable service systems, where complex multimedia services are composed dynamically from multiple simpler ones that may be widely distributed. Related to such a scenario is the problem of finding feasible service paths that meet end-to-end requirements. Research has been done in discovering individual (unicast) service paths. In...
متن کاملThe OSI 95 Connection-Mode Transport Service - The Enhanced QoS1
During the last ten years, tremendous changes have taken place in the communication environments. First, there has been a continuous increase in network performance that has led, for instance, to increasingly high access data rates available in the lower layers. Furthermore, the changes in the offered network services have raised the issue of providing, at the transport level, services already ...
متن کاملComparative Analisys of Multicast Routing Algorithms for Multimedia Communication over ATM Networks
For a long time, the quality of the distributed multimedia applications was restricted by the limitations of the computer networking technologies. This scenery has changed a lot with the introduction of ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode). Characteristics like quality of service (QoS), support to different categories of traffic (voice, video and data), high scalability, among others, make ATM one ...
